Information:
Massey University Alpine Club (MUAC) is an outdoor club run by volunteers for the benefit of its members, both student and non-student. Membership costs $40 per year. In 2010 there were 252 members in the club, with an good mix of international and Kiwi students, guys and girls.
The club has a weekly meeting on Monday evenings at 7pm in the ICLT (ground floor of the Vet Tower), and runs at least one official club trip each weekend.
Through MUAC you can participate in almost any outdoor activity - beginners are welcome! At the moment the club is involved in Alpine Climbing/Mountaineering, Tramping (Hiking), Kayaking, Mountain biking, Rock climbing, Caving, Slacklining, and Skiing/Snowboarding. We also run social events throughout the year such as the famous "Bush Ball".
MUAC administers the climbing wall in the Massey Recreation Centre. For $20 a semester, MUAC members can climb at the wall on Tuesday and Thursday nights 7pm -10pm. Climbing wall officers will be on hand with climbing shoes and chalk.
The club owns the only Alpine hut on the Turoa Ski field, and members get discounted accommodation at the hut (bookings essential). We also hire out a range of outdoor gear at reasonable prices.
